Otters

Otters are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017.  Surveys for Otters are typically required where development may affect rivers and streams, for example where culverts or bridges are to be constructed.  While generally focused on aquatic habitats, work should have regard to terrestrial movement corridors between different river systems.

Being fully protected, development that would significantly affect Otter populations is illegal without a licence.  Ecology Solutions is able to advise on suitable approaches to mitigation and liaise with the licensing authority as required.
