The implementation of mitigation programmes involving
protected species within England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland may
require licensing.
Badgers are regularly
encountered on development sites and particular provision is made within the
Protection of Badgers Act 1992 for licences to be issued in regard to
development activities. Ecology Solutions has extensive experience in
obtaining such licences and implementing licensed mitigation programmes so
as to facilitate development activities whilst also safeguarding badgers,
their setts and foraging grounds.
Other protected species are also regularly
encountered within development sites. The protection they are afforded
varies and Ecology Solutions can advise on the extent of any required
mitigation programme. We have recently undertaken licensed mitigation works
to facilitate development whilst safeguarding otters, great crested newts,
bats and dormice.
In certain circumstances, licences may not
be required for mitigation programmes to be implemented. Ecology Solutions
can advise on a case by case basis. Recent examples include agreed
mitigation programmes for water voles, common reptiles, black redstarts and
solitary mining bees. |
